Arrive Venice, Journey to the Dolomites
We'll meet you at Venice Airport this morning, and depart for Ortisei. The valley of Gardena is best known for skiing and rock climbing, and woodcarving which has flourished here since the 17th century. Home to three cultures - Italian, Austrian, and the native Ladin, most signage in Val Gardena is written in three languages - Italian, German, and Ladin!
If you’re keen for a leg stretch after arriving, there’s a chance to explore the Seceda area above Ortisei and see the massive rock spires which are iconic to this mountainous area.

Lunch, Dinner
Puez Odle and Rasciesa
Today we'll hike the the flank of the Rasciesa Odle mountain group, amply named “needles” in Ladin. From the town of Ortisei, we'll take the Resciesa funicolar to Chalet Resciesa from where we'll start our hike. This trail is predominantly undulating with minimal elevation gain. This allows for spectacular views of this geological marvel.
We'll stop for a drink or a rest at a local Rifugio and admire the jagged north faces of the dramatic Odle Group before descending toward Ortisei by cable-car.

Sassolungo, Sassopiatto Circumnavigation
Today’s hike offers incredible panoramic walking with superb scenery; wildflowers grow in abundance on the grassy slopes populated by cows and marmots. In the morning we'll drive to Passo Sella for our hike on a wide, well-marked trail under the Sassolungo north face and Sassopiatto massifs.
Right after the impressive Sassolungo North Clock Tower spire, we’ll hike right into the heart of the massif to Rifugio Vicenza, a typical Dolomites rifugio and the perfect place to enjoy lunch. After lunch, a green landscape will replace the rocky scenery.
We'll stop for a drink at the cozy Murmeltier Hütte before hiking the section to Rifugio Sassopiato.

Val di Fassa
From Rifugio Bergamo, we’ll head up and over Passo Principe, into a wide stone desert valley, reminiscent of a western movie set!
Level ground leads to the glittering lake Lago d'Antermoia, with the Croda da Lago Massif towering overhead. Not far away, over a modest rise, is Rifugio Antermoia (2,497m / 8,192'), an exemplary hut run by a mountain guide, and a great place to take a break.
We’ll continue into the Val Duron and down into Val di Fassa, and our hotel in Canazei.

Viel Del Pan
The Viel del Pan is one of the most spectacular footpaths in the Dolomites - offering an incomparable view of the majestic Marmolada (3,342m / 10,964'). Often referred to as "Queen of the Dolomites," Marmolada is the highest mountain in this mountain range, and home to its largest glacier. The entire length of this balcony trail is met with incredible views of Marmolada and the Gran Vernel.
We’ll arrive at Rifugio Gorza where there’s a chance to have lunch before hiking to Arabba where we’ll drive a short distance to Alta Badia, our home for next two evenings.
Hotel Rezia, La Villa

Santa Croce
Our final hike today is all about the meadows. From our accommodation in La Villa we’ll drive a short distance to San Cassiano and begin our hike across the base of the Santa Croce mountain group.
We’ll begin with a short ascent through forest, before emerging into boulder garden areas and eventually arriving at the renowned La Crusc Church, built in 1511. After lunch and exploring the church we’ll make our way through glorious alpine meadows, with the sounds go cows bells and a landscaped peppered with traditional hay storage huts.
We’ll drive a short distance back to La villa for the final evening of the trip.
