Welcome to the heart of the Dolomites, where jagged peaks pierce the sky, and every valley tells a tale of nature’s grandeur. Our meticulously crafted itinerary is a passage through this alpine wonderland, guiding you to the hidden gems and iconic trails that define the Dolomiti experience. From the ancient charm of Cortina d’Ampezzo to the historic echoes of Passo Giau, each day unfolds a new chapter in your adventure.
Immerse yourself in the rhythm of nature, whether hiking Lagazuoi’s historic tunnels, traversing the Civetta Massif’s colossal walls, or savoring the solitude of Franzedàz. Our journey is a celebration of both the untamed beauty and the rich histories etched into these mountains.
Hike Lagazuoi, Cinque Torri, & Averau
We’ll meet you at Venice Airport this morning, and depart for Cortina. Host to the 1956 Winter Olympics, Cortina enjoys a reputation for great skiing in winter, and in the summer attracts hikers and climbers who challenge the rocky faces of the nearby mountains.
Be prepared to be blown away the further we get mountains – it gets more spectacular around every corner! After we’ve arrived and had a chance to settle in, we’ll head out for a warm up hike in the surrounding rolling Dolomites foothills of Cortina.
As it’s early summer, the meadows are green and the rapids of the Torrente Boite are thunderous and a site to see on this hike.

Hike Lagazuoi, Cinque Torri, & Averau
Today we’ll explore the Lagazuoi-Cinque Torri area – of great interest for both the spectacular mountains around and the abundance of reminders of the terrible years of WWI, due to the adjacency of the former border between the long-dismantled Hapsburg Empire and Italy.
We’ll take a cable car to Lagazuoi Rifugio high above Passo Falzarego, and descend the tunnels built into the mountain by soldiers who held off the Austo-Hungarian army. Upon arrival at the Pass, we’ll hike up to Rifugio Averau, our home for the evening.

Hike Passo Giau
The trail this morning leads over the Forcella Giau (2,360m) with plenty of ups and downs; here the views of the Tofana and Monte Cavallo are inspiring, not to mention the mountains on display to the south: Monte Fromin, Cernera, Pelmo and the upswept flank of Monte Mondeval. Along the hike, we’ll have great views of the majestic Sorapiss, the unmistakable pyramid of Antelao, and far off the Cadore Dolomites.
The last part of the day leads us below Pelmo’s north face, (which is 1,006m straight up to the top) to our comfortable mountain Rifugio at Passo Staulanza (1,783m), our home for tonight.

Hike Civetta & Moiazza
From our rifugio, we’ll descend to the Val Civetta over the Col Rean, through beautiful, open, green meadows to the narrow valley of Val Corpassa. The trail takes us right below the sheer rock faces of the Torre Venezia (2,337m) and the Torre Trieste (2,458m), both rising some 600 meters vertically from the valley floor.
We’ll pass by the Rifugio Vazzoler (1,723m) and ascend steeply through a dense forest to Forcella de l’Orso and alongside Monte Moiazza’s southern flank to Rifugio Bruto Cartestiato. We’ll continue to Rifugio San Sebastiano across pasture clearings we’ll take a private transfer to Malga Ciapela.

Hike Malga Ciapela to San Pellegrino
From Malga Ciapela we’ll hike west along the river Torrente Pettorina. The trail climbs steadily through thick forest to reach pasture clearings. Soon the uphill section begins in earnest!
We’ll visit the uninhabited village of Franzedàz, amidst sweeping alpine meadows and take a step back in time. We’ll leave the high pastures and hike on the gravelly terrain that leads to Forca Rossa (2,490).
From here we’ll begin our descent in the direction of Passo San Pellegrino, and reach our rifugio for the night.

Hike Four Valleys
After breakfast we’ll depart from our rifugio past a string of photogenic hay barns and chalets, reaching Albergo Miralago (1,920m). We’ll hike to Passo San Pellegrino and continue toward Passo Valles, which strikes out southeast across marshy terrain. We’ll quickly enter some pretty woods and climb steadily, crossing a cascading stream along the way.
We’ll continue to climb to Corda degli Zingari (2,297m), a broad crest on the edge of the Altopiano degli Zingari. Hike down the dirt track beneath Monte Predazzo admiring the vast slabs of the metamorphic Lagorai chain extending east to north, to Passo Valles (2,031m / 6,663′) and have a private transfer to your hotel, where we’ll enjoy a well-deserved dinner and night’s rest.
